Josh Hendrickson on making a living with YouTube
The former Editor-in-Chief of Review Geek talks switching from written journalism to video.
Welcome! For my first conversation, I spoke with Josh Hendrickson. He's become a professional YouTuber, and his transition from written tech journalism to making a living on YouTube is fascinating. Josh ran Review Geek as Editor-in-Chief under LifeSavvy Media before leaving during the Valnet acquisition. He’s built his own profitable YouTube channel: Anoraker.
This is the kind of conversation you'd have off the record if you reached out to a trusted connection in media: We talk about exactly how much money he makes on YouTube and how he does it -- from affiliate deals to display ads. Josh shares his insights on how you need to approach YouTube if you want to turn a passion into a profitable business that can also pay your bills.
But beyond advice for getting started on YouTube, we also talk about the state of media, the importance of building an independent business as a journalist, the ethics of affiliate deals -- and we reflect on Review Geek's history.
Josh hopes to see more tech journalists on YouTube. Beyond this conversation, Josh is happy to help out if you have any other questions! (see the 54:46 minute mark in the video.)
